Dr. Shamir Ghumra

Dr. Shamir Ghumra leads the global BREEAM portfolio of sustainability standards which has been driving global improvements in buildings and infrastructure for over three decades. Shamir is an experienced ESG and sustainability leader with a strong belief in empowering others for commercial success. In his current role leading the Building Performance Services Division at BRE, Shamir supports the BRE mission "to be the world-leading innovation, science and data hub for the built environment.” Shamir sits on a number of international committees and expert groups relating to sustainability in the built environment. His own Doctorate was related to Life Cycle Assessment Studies of construction products and Shamir has subsequently supervised a number of PhD students himself. In recent years Shamir has developed expertise in Social Impacts issues such as Modern Slavery and Human Rights Due Diligence. A firm believer in developing inclusive organisations and culture for business success Shamir leads the BRE programme on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion. Shamir takes a keen interest in digital and data needs of the industry and sees a future where data drives better insights and science based evidence becomes the currency of decision making. Shamir was a founding partner and former board member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School. Shamir is a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, a Chartered Environmentalist and a Visiting Professor at the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering at Loughborough University in the UK.
