Guido is a Belgian national, with University qualifications in Germanic Philology and specialized in Scandinavian Languages and Literature. He studied at the Universities of Ghent and Oslo. In March 1983, he started his hospitality career at ITT Sheraton working for Sheraton Reservations Corporation in Brussels. In 1984 he moved to Bahrain to lead Sheraton’s Worldwide Reservations office for the Middle East. Between 1988 and 2006 Guido held various leadership positions in Sales & Marketing for Sheraton and worked as General Manager and Area Manager for Starwood in Portugal. Early 2006 Guido came to Dubai as Vice President, Regional Director for Starwood Middle East, and was Senior Vice President for Starwood when he was appointed as Chief Operating Officer by Marriott International in September 2016 when Marriott acquired Starwood. Upon his retirement in June 2021, Guido was responsible for a portfolio of 170 hotels with 80 hotels under development in the Middle East, including Turley and Egypt. This culminated 38 years in the hospitality industry, half of which were spent in the Middle East (16 years in Dubai). Guido recently took on a role at WASL Hospitality leading the Asset Management Team.
