Salma Arafa

Salma Arafa is an Innovation Expert at the UNTO in its Regional Office of the Middle East. In her role, Salma works with a wide range of stakeholders to advance innovation in the tourism sector. She played a leading role in the development and implementation of the inaugural edition of the Women in Tech Middle East startup competition. Recently, Salma was selected as chair of the task group on tourism within the International Telecommunications Union’s Focus Group on Metaverse. Prior to joining the UNTO, Salma held positions at the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Office of the Resident Coordinator (UNRCO). Salma holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Ryerson University.
