Marcello Distefano is CEO of San Carlo Restaurant Group. After completing his degree in BSC Management at the University of Bath in 2005, he joined his family business. San Carlo was originally started by his father in 1992, with his first restaurant in Birmingham. When Marcello joined in 2005, the group had opened its fourth restaurant in Manchester. He spent the next 5 years experiencing all levels and roles within the business, until eventually taking the role of Managing Director and now CEO. The group has gone on to become one of the biggest family owned restaurant groups in the UK. They currently operate 25 sites in the UK and 10 international franchises, employing over 1200 people. The group operates under several brands including Signor Sassi, San Carlo Cicchetti, Fumo, Isola and Alto, to name but a few. Marcello sees the international market as the major pipeline for the future growth of the company, with a further 8 sites to open in the next 18 months, including Miami, Bahrain, Vietnam, Ireland, Morocco and Istanbul.
