- What it is
- Serviced living and a members' club for lifestyle-driven grown-ups, inside Hamburg's listed Hindenburghaus. The building holds 45 serviced apartments above around 1,200 sq m of club and wellbeing space, with a public café, bakery and bookshop at street level. Membership opens a network of partner clubs.
- The gap
- Demographic change is driving demand for later-life housing the market has not met, and what exists tends to separate older people from city life. Garde set out to rewrite what growing older looks like, without the scheduled bingo nights.
- The answer
- Design-led apartments come with hotel services. The club is open to non-residents, so the building never becomes age-segregated, and the street-level café ties it to the neighbourhood. Applicants for Hamburg ranged from 46 to 81 years old.
